EA Series: A Reliable Edge Foundation for Industrial AI Agents

Industrial AI is shifting from passive data collection and cloud commands to local autonomous perception, reasoning, and closed-loop execution. EA series, built on NVIDIA Jetson Orin, provides rugged edge hardware for industrial AI agents—so they run on shop floors, equipment, robots, and inspection stations instead of staying in slide decks.

The Challenge

An automotive parts plant faced three pain points:

  • Vision inspection relied on multiple cameras, but existing equipment lacked compute. Cloud uploads added latency; network fluctuations interrupted inspection and caused missed defects.
  • Equipment O&M depended on manual inspection. Too many alarms; work order handling relied on engineer experience, with no local AI Agent for diagnosis and dispatch.
  • AGVs, PLCs, sensors, and cameras used heterogeneous protocols. AI results could not directly link to field IO and control devices—AI could see and think, but not act.

The factory wanted lightweight industrial AI agents—visual inspection, predictive maintenance, and on-site embodied inspection—with local inference, offline availability, wide-temperature stability, native industrial bus and camera support, and room for future expansion. EA series was selected as the edge runtime foundation.

The Solution: Tiered EA Series for Different Agent Workloads

  • EA230 / EA230 Pro (Orin Nano, up to 67 TOPS INT8):Lightweight Agents—standardized visual inspection, single-device monitoring, simple work order analysis. Cost-effective for large-scale workstation deployment. Pro adds GMSL2, multi-camera expansion, and Y-board IO, suitable for mobile robots and roadside perception.
  • EA250 / EA250 Pro (Orin NX, up to 157 TOPS INT8): Advanced Agents—multi-camera vision fusion, 3D point cloud analysis, local VLM/lightweight LLM O&M Agents, multi-sensor fusion. Pro adds high-speed vision input and rich industrial IO, enabling AI decisions to directly drive field actuators for on-device closed-loop control.

All models feature -20°C to +75°C operation, aluminum chassis, EMC protection, isolated RS485, CAN FD, Ethernet, and USB. EdgeCoder workbench and BLRAT remote tool support Docker and mainstream AI frameworks, with one-click model delivery, remote debugging, version iteration, and batch Agent management.

Architecture: the cloud handles training, knowledge updates, and global scheduling. The EA series acts as the edge brain—connecting cameras and sensors, running perception and fault parsing locally, generating work orders, and linking to PLCs, IO, and robots. During outages, Agents run autonomously; when connected, logs sync back for continuous optimization.

Results

  • Visual inspection Agent: EA250 connects multiple industrial cameras, runs YOLO and segmentation models locally, and triggers sorting mechanisms directly—sub-millisecond closed loop without cloud dependency. Defect escape rate fell; network outages no longer interrupt inspection; inspection manpower on one line dropped 60%.
  • Predictive maintenance Agent: A lightweight multimodal model at the edge collects motor and reducer vibration/temperature data, identifies abnormal features, determines fault type and risk level, generates standardized work orders, and pushes them to O&M. It upgrades from “alarm notification” to “AI diagnoses first, then dispatches.” Unplanned downtime fell significantly; O&M efficiency improved.
  • Mobile embodied Agent: EA230 Pro on AGVs connects multiple GMSL2 cameras and CAN FD. The Agent perceives obstacles, people, and materials in real time, plans paths, and adjusts task priorities—integrating perception and control for complex dynamic environments.
  • Scalable deployment: A unified hardware base and toolchain let new Agents—energy analysis, safety compliance inspection—deploy quickly to the same EA models. Tiered compute matches cost to complexity: EA230 for simple stations, EA250 for complex multimodal work.

Customer Feedback

“Previously, industrial AI meant cloud dashboards and after-the-fact statistics. EA series brings AI agents down to the equipment: AI sees, analyzes, and commands field actions by itself. The integrated edge foundation solves the hardest last mile—the closed loop from inference to industrial execution.”

Conclusion

Industrial AI agents don’t need ever-larger general models. They need reliable, real-time, closed-loop-capable edge carriers built for industrial sites. EA series connects AI models, multi-sensor data, industrial communication, and field execution—providing a standardized hardware platform for manufacturing, energy, rail transit, and mobile robotics. Training in the cloud, decisions at the edge, execution on site. EA series gives every production line its own industrial AI agent.
