When AI inference meets industrial control, performance is only part of the challenge.
Industrial AI devices need to do more than run powerful models. They must operate reliably on factory floors, inside control cabinets, on mobile robots, at traffic infrastructure sites, and in other demanding environments.
That is why industrial edge AI needs a different kind of platform.
Built around NVIDIA® Jetson Orin™ NX/Nano modules, the EA Series combines up to 157 TOPS of AI performance with industrial-grade reliability, flexible I/O, multi-camera connectivity, remote management, and an industrial software ecosystem.
From cost-optimized AIoT gateways to high-performance multi-camera vision applications, the EA Series is designed to bring AI from the lab into real-world industrial environments.
The EA Series provides four computing configurations:
• EA230 — Jetson Orin Nano 4GB | Up to 34 TOPS | 4GB LPDDR5
• EA240 — Jetson Orin Nano 8GB | Up to 67 TOPS | 8GB LPDDR5
• EA250 — Jetson Orin NX 8GB | Up to 117 TOPS | 8GB LPDDR5
• EA260 — Jetson Orin NX 16GB | Up to 157 TOPS | 16GB LPDDR5
EA230 and EA240 are well suited to power-sensitive and cost-optimized AI workloads, while EA250 and EA260 target demanding applications such as multi-camera vision, real-time control, and local AI data processing.
With NVIDIA Ampere architecture, 1024 CUDA cores, and 32 fourth-generation Tensor Cores, the platform can support workloads ranging from real-time object detection with YOLOv8 to edge-side Transformer and LLM inference.
AI performance means little if the hardware cannot survive the environment.
The EA Series supports an operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C, making it suitable for demanding outdoor and industrial installations.
The ruggedized design complies with MIL-STD-810G requirements and has passed environmental tests including low-temperature startup, high-temperature startup, humidity, vibration, and free-fall testing.
Industrial EMC protection is also built in, including ESD, EFT, and surge protection.
For thermal management, passive cooling is available for power modes up to 15W, while active cooling supports Jetson Orin NX 40W operation and sustained performance in environments up to 75°C.
The EA Series is more than an AI development board.
It is designed as an industrial controller with connectivity for real-world automation systems:
Industrial I/O
• 1× isolated RS232/RS485
• 1× CAN FD
• 2× GPI + 2× GPO
• 1× Y-Series I/O expansion interface
Networking
• 1× 2.5GbE + 1× 1GbE
• Optional 4× 2.5GbE PoE+ inputs
USB & Display
• 4× USB 3.2 Gen 2
• 2× USB 2.0
• HDMI 2.1, up to 8K@30Hz
Storage & Expansion
• M.2 Key-M for PCIe Gen 4 x4 NVMe SSD
• M.2 Key-E for Wi-Fi 6 / Bluetooth
• M.2 Key-B for LTE / 5G
• Optional TPM 2.0
• Micro-SIM slot
Machine vision is one of the most important industrial edge AI applications.
The EA Series supports four camera expansion approaches, allowing system developers to select the architecture that best fits their application:
• VD01 — 4× 2.5GbE PoE+ inputs
• VD03 — 4× GMSL2 camera interfaces with FAKRA Z connectors and PoC
• VD04 — 4× FPD-Link IV camera interfaces with FAKRA Z connectors and PoC
• VD05 — 4× MIPI CSI-2 camera connectivity via 22-pin FFC connectors
This flexibility makes the EA Series suitable for applications ranging from long-distance high-definition traffic cameras to multi-camera perception systems on AMRs and other mobile platforms.
What happens when an edge AI device deployed hundreds or thousands of kilometers away needs to be restarted?
With the optional Out-of-Band (OOB) management module, the EA Series can support remote power control and device restart through Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or 4G.
Combined with BLRAT secure remote management, engineers can remotely maintain distributed edge devices without physically traveling to the site.
The EA Series comes with NVIDIA JetPack 6.2 based on Ubuntu 22.04, providing access to CUDA, TensorRT, cuDNN, and the broader NVIDIA AI software ecosystem.
It also integrates an industrial software stack including:
• OpenPLC / CODESYS — SoftPLC runtime for combining industrial logic control with AI inference
• Node-RED — Low-code workflow development for data acquisition and processing
• BLRAT — Secure remote management
• QuickConfig — Graphical configuration and monitoring
• EdgeCoder — Web-based IDE with AI-assisted analysis
• Docker — Containerized application and microservice deployment
This enables developers to combine AI inference, PLC control, data acquisition, edge processing, and remote maintenance on a single industrial platform.
